Kalyx Privacy Policy

Kalyx is privacy-first, and it is easy to verify. Everything you capture stays on your device and, if you turn on syncing, in your own iCloud account. We operate no servers that hold your content, so there is nothing on our side to leak, subpoena or sell.

What we collect

Nothing. Kalyx has no account to create, no login, no analytics and no usage statistics. We do not know how many notes you have, what they say, or whether you opened the app today.

Where your data lives

Your captures — their text, their history and any voice recordings — live in Kalyx’s own storage on your device. If you enable syncing, they also live in your iCloud account, under your Apple Account, governed by Apple’s privacy policy. They never travel through servers we control.

You can take everything with you at any time: Settings → Export everything writes a package containing a plain text file with your captures — including the original text of each one — and a folder with every voice recording. If a recording is referenced but missing from disk, the export says so in its own section rather than leaving it out silently. It opens anywhere, with or without Kalyx.

Voice notes and transcription

If you dictate a note, the audio is saved on your device and the transcription runs on-device using Apple’s speech framework. The recording is never uploaded to us. The first time you dictate in a given language, Apple’s system may download a language model from Apple — that request goes to Apple, not to us, and carries none of your content.

Camera and photos

If you capture with the camera, the text recognition runs on-device with Apple’s Vision framework, and the photo is saved on your device alongside the capture — never uploaded to us. The photo is kept even when the recognition reads badly or reads nothing, for the same reason a voice recording is kept regardless of its transcript: the original is the data, and what a machine made of it is an interpretation.

When live scanning is not available, Kalyx can read the text of a photo you choose. It uses the system picker, which hands the app only the image you picked — Kalyx never gets access to your photo library, and it never writes anything to it.

Camera and photo access are asked for at the moment you use them, not at launch, and refusing either leaves the rest of the app working.

Intelligence features

Kalyx uses Apple’s on-device intelligence to suggest whether a capture is something to keep or something to do, and to spot a date you mentioned. This runs on your device. Kalyx does not send your captures to any AI provider — ours or anyone else’s.

Third-party SDKs

None. No analytics, no crash reporting services, no tracking SDKs, no advertising. Kalyx is built with Apple’s frameworks and nothing else, so no third-party code runs alongside your captures.

In-app purchases

Kalyx is a one-time purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details, your name or your billing address. We only learn — from Apple, on your device — whether this Apple Account has purchased the unlock.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Kalyx schedules reminders locally on your device for the dates you yourself wrote into your captures. There is no push server; nothing about your notes is sent anywhere to make a reminder appear.

How long we keep it, and how you delete it

We keep nothing, because we are never given anything. Your captures are kept for as long as you keep them, on your device and — if you turned syncing on — in your own iCloud account. There is no copy on our side to retain or to delete.

To delete them yourself, Settings → Delete everything. It removes your captures, their recordings, their photos and their attached files from this device and, when syncing is on, from your iCloud too, and it leaves Kalyx as if freshly installed. It cannot be undone, so export first if you want to keep a copy.

Deleting the app also removes what is on the device — but not what already went to your iCloud, which is why the in-app option exists.

Because we hold no data about you, the practical way to exercise them for Kalyx is in the app: Settings → Export everything takes a copy with you, and Settings → Delete everything removes your captures from this device and from your iCloud. Children

Kalyx is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone, regardless of age.

Changes

Material changes are reflected in the “Last updated” date above. Because Kalyx collects nothing, any change that started collecting something would be announced in the app before it took effect.
